Getting Something As A Surprise

By Nicole White

Do you remember how you felt when you were a kid and your parent or grandparent surprised you with something? Remember that feeling of excitement joy rushing through your body? That's what I felt when my Dad brought home my very first kitten.

I was just about 6 years old. Each Saturday morning my father would wake up very early to make coffee, shower and read the entire newspaper. One morning in particular he told me he was going to the store to pick up some groceries. He asked me if I wanted anything from the store and I told him just a package of gum. My Dad said okay and I patiently waited for him to return to bring me a pack of gum.

Less than an hour later my Dad came home but it was not with a pack of bubble gum, like I was anticipating. He came home holding an adorable orange and white kitten! I was so shocked that he came home with a kitten. This was a pet I've wanted to have for months! The kitten was perfect, he had a beautifully designed coat. Orange and white stripes going everywhere and he was so friendly.

The pack of gum slipped my mind completely due to the arrival of my new kitten. I ended up naming him Ralphy and he was one of my favorite cats ever. Some days I would not be feeling good and Ralphy would sit down near me and massage my head with his paws. The feeling was amazing as he would purr simultaneously. It was an extremely nice feeling and to this day I'm an avid cat lover.

I will always remember that morning when my father brought home my kitten. I'm still surprised that I remember that morning in such detail. Surprises can be so amazing, especially when you receive something you really want. What I like most about surprises is that you can be of any age to enjoy them.
